It is told that Numa Pompilius, the second king of Rome, established the rules of sacred law and the calendar, adding two months (January and February) to the ten instituted by Romulus. After dedicating January to Janus, the god of transitions, he dedicated the month of February to Februus, a deity first Etruscan and later Roman, the patron of purifications performed at the end of the Roman religious year.
Hence the name of this Ciliegiolo, our indigenous Tuscan grape variety, cultivated for centuries in Maremma.
